One Day Program: Foundations for Agile Success

The first day focuses on understanding Agile for Hardware and the MAHD framework, including its key elements, team member roles and the suite of tools to manage agile success from project inception to completion of deliverables.

PART 1:  AN AGILE OVERVIEW

  • The Benefits of Agile – The investment, business case and results you can expect
  • Agile Principles as applied to hardware – A brief overview of the key elements of Agile principles
  • The Hardware Challenge – What makes hardware unique and why modifying Agile is critical

PART 2: THE ELEMENTS OF AGILE FOR HARDWARE

  • An introduction to Agile for Hardware, the MAHD Framework, key success factors and team roles
  • The Onramp – Preparing for Agile success and how to think about user stories, requirements and prototypes
  • Managing iterations, dependencies and schedules
  • Agile Case Studies – Examples of how Agile can lead to success with various physical products

PART 3: STEP-BY-STEP AGILE FOR HARDWARE WITH MAHD

Using an agile project as an example, we walk through each step from project kickoff to initial release. Along the way we review the structure and methods:

  • Roles and kickoff success
  • Examples of user stories, requirements, backlogs and Agile kickoff plans
  • The Agile Engine – Planning for grooming, iterations, sprints
  • The Fuel – Customer engagement and feedback
  • Challenges and solutions to get started

Agile Toolkit – Each participant receives a complete Agile for Hardware Toolkit materials, templates and tools that we provide for end-to-end success

Day 2 Program (Optional): Implementing MAHD Practices

The leadership team will apply the agile methods using the tools introduced in day one to focus on one or more specific Epiroc projects and work through the initial planning process.

PART 1: GETTING YOUR AGILE PROJECT STARTED

  • The Agile on-ramp – Take the right steps to kick off your Agile project with team formation, roles, user stories and getting to your task backlog
  • Iteration and estimation planning – Planning for your first iteration and sprint

PART 2: DAY-TO-DAY AGILE TACTICS

  • Sprint planning – Practice your first sprint planning meeting using a role-play exercise
  • Iteration complete – Once several sprints have yielded stakeholder-viewable deliverables, the team will learn how to successfully complete an iteration and prepare for the next one

PART 3: STAYING ON COURSE AND CORRECTIONS

  • Steady state – How to stay on track and plan for upcoming sprints when obstacles present themselves
  • Getting stakeholder and management support
  • Debrief and action planning – We’ll review learning of the two days while preparing the team for their post workshop action plan
